In Season NW: Shop for Fun at Farmers' Markets

"Summertime in the Northwest is a double-edged sword.

"The kids are out of school (or perhaps the spouse is on vacation). They want to be 'entertained' and they need to be fed. But who wants to be stuck in the house—let alone in the kitchen with the stove seething—when the siren song of the outdoors beckons so sweetly?

"The solution: Portland's farmers' markets."

Check out my article in today's Arts & Entertainment section of the Oregonian titled "Shopping for Fun: Farmers' markets offer more than just farm-fresh produce." It profiles five of the area's hottest market, with tips on the best places for sampling, takeout and eating right there.

A New Market on Hayden Island: Just got word that Hayden Island Farmers' Market is joining the 40 or so markets in the Portland area. It will be the only year-round indoor market in the group, operating inside Jantzen Beach Center every Tuesday from 2 to 7 pm starting July 7.
