We often drove to Bob 'n' Ruth's Vineyard for chicken in a basket.

"Grape pies are in my heritage and so is walking the tow path, knowing mule barns, riding a barge, fruit packing, driving behind trucks heaped with green beans, round bales of hay and wine tours (to name a few).

"My house is in Middleport along the canal's tow path and walking the tow path between the lift bridges is a favorite thing to do. My children grew up knowing that the bell on the lift bridge meant that they could safely leave the dinner table to see the bridge lifting and a boat going through.

"Favorite haunts while I am in the area? Shirt Factory Cafe in Medina, NY. Located along the Erie Canal. The Little Book Shoppe located in village of Medina and many more villages with names ending in 'port.'

"Favorite drink to order from the Shirt Factory Cafe which used to be a real shirt factory where my husband had his pattern on file ?
Erie Canal Sludge.

"Thanks for the memory!"

Thank you, Julie!Kathleen Bauerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07620435699701266954noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-28154076.post-83181663661118894292010-12-20T08:45:11.155-08:002010-12-20T08:45:11.155-08:00Gosh, thanks Joan! Enjoyed your connections to the western settlement of our country and the relationships to homesteads, family & agriculture 185 years later. Fresh horseradish root is the best.
